Dagens historie fra London: Labour, der står til at vinde 2015-valget er på fallittens rand.

"Now the main problem is that while the old relationship between the unions and the party is being read the last rites, neither Miliband nor anyone else has a clue what will replace it. One insider I spoke to yesterday said Labour was bankrupt, and it was only a matter of time before the creditors came knocking. A party official told me the funding crisis had become so great managers had expressed the hope that the Co-op bank – which has extended millions in loans to Labour – would go bust, so their debts could be written off."

"The news that the GMB union has cut its affiliation fees to Labour by one million pounds, and slashed its general election fund, has sent shockwaves through the party’s ranks. Though why isn’t entirely clear, given that, in June, Miliband announced he was recasting the relationship with his largest funders, asking their members to become individual party members instead of paying their subs via their unions. Given that many trade unionists aren’t even Labour voters, this greater transparency Miliband was seeking was always going to come at a price."
