TV and radio personality Glenn Beck says he regrets some of his time at Fox News, saying he helped “tear the country apart.”

“I remember it as an awful lot of fun and that I made an awful lot of mistakes,” Beck told Megyn Kelly on Fox News on Tuesday. “I think I played a role, unfortunately, in helping tear the country apart.

When asked to reflect on his time at the network by Kelly, Beck said he would be more “uniting” if he could do it all over again.

“I wish I could go back and be more uniting in my language,” Beck said. “I didn’t realize how really fragile the people were. I thought we were kind of a little more in it together. And now I look back and I realize if we could have talked about the uniting principles a little bit more, instead of just the problems, I think I would look back on it a little more fondly.”

Beck had a show on Fox News from 2009 to 2011, when he left the network and launched his Internet-based radio and TV program, what is now TheBlaze TV. Beck’s time at the network was notable for both the attention and ratings he brought in and also the controversy he caused with sometimes inflammatory rhetoric.

All sides said his split from the network in 2011 was relatively amicable.

As for his regrets at the network, Beck added that he wasn’t making generalizations about Fox.

“That’s only my role,” he said.
