A man who sent text messages to his Polish former girlfriend telling her that "Hitler should have done his job properly" has been jailed.
Darren Tosh launched the tirade of abuse at Zuzanna Winianska after the couple broke up last year.
A sheriff told Tosh: "You are an outrage and society casts you out. These messages are the most disgusting slur that could be put to someone, that they belong to a race that should have been exterminated as five million people were."
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Tosh, an electrician, and Miss Winianska broke up last year but remained on friendly terms as she wanted to get money back that Tosh owed her.
But when she asked him to pay up he launched the vile series of messages telling her "Hitler should have done his job properly" and telling her she "looked like an East German shot putter".
Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson told the court: "During August 9 last year she sent a text message to the accused asking when she would get the money back."
"He replied 'Hitler should have done his job properly' and added 'you contact me again and someone will see you'.
"He later sent another text saying 'someone is going to pay you a visit, see ya, wouldn't want to be with you. Half your face is still on my pillow. You look like an East German shot putter before the wall came down'."
He added 'Your face is all make up and in the morning you look terrible. Is your name Ivan by any chance? My friend said you look like a prostitute'. Several days later she reported it to the police as she was becoming increasingly frightened of him."
Tosh, 36, of North Erskine Street, Dundee, pleaded guilty to sending grossly offensive text messages to Zuzanna Winianska on August 9 last year.
He was on bail and subject to an undertaking from Aberdeen Sheriff Court at the time of the incident.
Jim Caird, defending, said that despite the "disgusting" messages Tosh, who has several previous convictions for similar offences, was not a racist.
He said: "He is certainly not someone who holds these views. They were sent in anger."
Sheriff George Way jailed Tosh for three months and said: "You are a serial offender in relation to using the communications system to abuse people. In my opinion you have gone far beyond the situation that any civilised society can tolerate.
"Millions of people were slaughtered by Adolf Hitler and hundreds of thousands of Polish people were taken to the woods and shot in the head. You are an outrage and this society casts you out."
