"Mr Chief Executive, a lot of people are angry about the big divide between rich and poor that has been widened since the financial crisis. They are also angry that home affordability is low. They claim it is not fair that they have to scrape through life living in small apartments while rich people can enjoy life in their big houses on the beach. They claim that politicians have not done enough to keep down property prices and support those who earn little. Who should we blame for this injustice, politicians like yourself, the rich or the business sector, headed by the major banks?"

"We should not try to blame anyone, neither politicians nor the business sector or anyone else. Our society has grown with tremendous speed throughout the last 30 years. During that development, some people might have been left on the side and might not have caught on to that development as fast as others might have had. But there is a difference between being rich and being unjust.

If you are saying we are not providing affordable housing, it is not true - all citizens can attain government subsidized housing if their income does not allow them to afford a home. The location might not be the most central, but remember that the people that live in the best locations have saved up their money throughout a hardworking life and are now reaping the rewards. I would say that it would be unjust to take this away from them after a long and stressfull career.

If you are saying that we don't provide free health care, it is not true. We are offering free health care at our public hospitals to all who need it. You might not be assigned a personal nurse, but the quality is indisputable which you can see through international rankings or through our very high life expectancy.

If you are saying that we don't provide quality education for everyone, it is also not true. As shown by international comparisons (her gaetter jeg paa han mener PISA), our educational system is ranked amongst the very best, and everyone can attend any of our schools either by attending a free school or acquiring one of the many available private scholarships.

We also have a well functioning, cheap public transportation sector.

All in all, we support those in need, those who cannot provide adequately for themselves, whilst we at the same time will not stand in the way of those who work hard, those who have made Hong Kong into the place it is today"
